The photoshoot I planned for yesterday didn't work out; instead I offer some from a frozen yogurt store with cool green walls...

First donation post

$305 raised so far in the SF Bay Area which amounts to 69 mosquito nets! This money is funding a LLIN distribution in Paloma, Southern Zambia.

Many thanks to Dr. Doran and her staff, Hazel Dicum, Alex, Vicky Low and Penelope Low for supporting the cause and buying bracelets.

Upcoming photo shoot

My friend Alton and I are planning a Knots for Nets photo shoot for Dec. 27. Alton is a creative and talented photographer and I am excited to see how the photos turn out. Hopefully these photoshoots will continue with other student photographers once we are back at Colorado College. And you, dear readers, are welcome to send an email to "knotsfornets at gmail dot com" with your bracelet photos so I can add them to our facebook page!

Julia and I just got off the phone with John Fletcher, a graphic designer based in New York City who is contributing his creative talent to our cause (and squarely in the middle of the holiday season, no less) by helping design a logo and give advice on the cards that will triple function as educational fact sheets/business cards/price tags.

Blogwarming party - Knots for Nets is up and running!

Fighting malaria is knot for the weak.

Knots for Nets sells hand-knotted jewelry (mainly bracelets) to buy long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) for people in malaria-endemic countries. These nets are great. They cost about $5 each and provide protection against malaria for 5+ years without having to be redipped in insecticide. They're tear-resistant. The Olyset net, a LLIN recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), is manufactured in Africa.

-A fund- and awareness-raising event at Colorado College on/around April 25, which is World Malaria Day

How to get involved:

-Donate directly to the Against Malaria Foundation if you want to support the cause but do not desire one of our bracelets.

-Buy some bracelets. For people who don’t live in New York City or Palo Alto, CA the current best way to do this is contact us (knotsfornets at gmail dot com) directly so we can correspond via snail mail.

-Become a fan on the Knots for Nets facebook page and help us spread the word!

If you are in the Colorado Springs area:

-Come to a Bracelet Begetting Bash to learn/teach new designs and hang out. It will be the cheerfullest sweatshop known to man, and will likely involve tasty treats.

-Sell some of the bracelets our group has made to friends, family and other people you know.
